TRP take out best short film - Sci-Fi and Fantasy International Film Festival in Sydney!

11 / 11 / 2010

On the weekend I was fortunate to attended the Sci-Fi and Fantasy International Film Festival awards night in Sydney,  a sold out show at the Dendy Theatre with my good friend Clint Lewis who created one of our unreleased music vids that was shortisted in the top 12. Turns out we WON best short film and collected a strange looking trophy, the event also screened ‘’Machete’’ new Rodriguez flim, awesome flick.  An interesting after party, met some awesome and very lovely TRP fans, played some basketball, had a gay man play me his heart felt gay songs and watched a sausage dog nearly drown, Just what I needed to fall in love with Sydney again. Well done and thanks to Clint, Tom, John, Moogie, Dallas, Adele, Nick 2 years in the making but an amazing video I can’t wait to release.

An Important Announcement From Trash... (Benefit Show Sunday/Gold Coast)

28 / 02 / 2008

I was recently approached by some people from the Gold Coast, who wanted to know if The Red Paintings would play a benefit show in memory of two young men. Jye Strong and Nathan Sprecak, both only 16, were killed earlier in the month when an out of control car hit them while they were on their way home from school. When I heard the news, and read into what had happened, I was completely stunned...I know these sorts of things happen to thousands of people by the minute, but this does hit's so close to my neighbourhood, it turns out Jye was a big fan of TRP.

While I wish we could do more for all of the lives lost in such senseless ways, I guess we can start by honouring the short lives of Jye and Nathan this Sunday March 2nd. We are honoured to be headlining the benefit concert which is being held at Carrara Stadium. In addition to TRP there will be many local bands, including Jye's former band mates who will be paying a very special tribute to him, playing their little hearts out, I'm sure. I've been told they are expecting 2000+ in attendance which is's a very special privilege to play and sing the last song of this event to the boys' family members and friends. I'm sure we will all be finishing the concert singing "Mad World" as one.

Below is a letter from one of the boys Mums. Such a beautiful letter to all involved. I was deeply touched when I read it, I've been crying like a baby all morning. Please spend the time to read it.

I'm so sorry for your loss guys, I really am.

See you all on Sunday; it's the least we can give you.

Trash McSweeney

P.S We will be covering the room with canvas and paints for people to paint on and giving them back to the boys families as memories of the event.

Painters, Venues, And New Album Info...OH MY!

28 / 03 / 2008

This month is a frantic one for The Paintings, and we need your help...ALL OVER THE GLOBE. If you are in either Australia or the US and think you can help us with painting/locking in shows, please read on...

First things first...
Australia: We are finalizing our lists for painters and human canvases
on the following shows:

Saturday April 5th - Factory Theater, Sydney
Thursday April 10th - National Hotel, Geelong
Friday April 11th - Ding Dong Lounge, Melbourne

These shows are in support of the band’s newest single, "We Belong In The Sea" and will be a journey into the watery depths with the band and our volunteer "mermaid" canvases. If you are interested in participating, please e-mail This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ASAP with your information and which roll you’re looking to fill. If you are interested in painting for the shows, please include a sample of your work in your e-mail. We will be responding to people ASAP letting you know when we’ve filled the final slots.

These three shows are the last time this stage show will ever be seen, so they really are not to be missed.

USA: While we are currently locking in our first return to The States since 2006, there are a lot of days we have set aside to play for you fine
folks where we can’t find venues...
Think you can help? Have a suggestion of a decent place for TRP to
play in any of the following cities (hopefully on the dates we have
blocked out)?

Saturday May 3rd – Los Angeles, Sacramento surrounding CA towns
Wednesday May 7th – Salt Lake City, UT
Friday May 9th – Phoenix, AZ or Tucson, AZ
Sunday May 11th – Phoenix, AZ or Tucson, AZ
Monday May 12th – Los Angeles, CA

If you think you can help us get shows in those areas (or nearby), please message back on MySpace or e-mail This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ASAP.
We would be up for opening/support acts or bringing in the troops for a true full blown Red Paintings orchestral art rock extravaganza!

Also, if you have been tolling over the US tour dates announced thus far and think that you can help promote (maybe even in exchange for some free tickets), paint, or canvas, please hit us back with a message here as well!

Lastly...a message from Trash regarding the new record: After months of hard work and some time off in-between we have finally been able to sit back and listen to what we have created over the last 6 months. Tidy Kid and I have decided this album needs to be mixed to its final stage with some fresh new ears, so we will complete the mixers for the new album in LA after the US tour with an exciting new producer whom we can hopefully announce shortly.

For those of you who have been a part of this record financially, creatively, or both this means the release date is up in the air at the moment. Those of you who are waiting to receive the limited edition vinyl will unfortunately have to wait until we finish the project in its entirety, which hopefully will be soon.

Any questions please email me: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and I’ll try respond to you ASAP.

Thank you all for your patience. it’s been quite an emotional roller coaster ride to date. Things are feeling different.

TRP confirmed as MAIN SUPPORT for Saul Williams

22 / 11 / 2008

.. TrentSlingshot presents...

The rise and return of...

Live onstage with his band of intergalactic sound surgeons.

with special guests 'The Red Paintings'.

In 1996 Saul Williams won the title of Nuyorican Poets Cafe's Grand Slam Champion. The following year, Williams landed the lead role in the 1998 feature film Slam. Williams served as both a writer and actor on the film, which would win both the Sundance Festival Grand Jury Prize and the Cannes Camera D'Or (Golden Camera) and serve to introduce Williams to international audiences.

Williams was at this time breaking into music. After releasing a string of EPs, in 2001 he released the much-hyped Amethyst Rock Star with producer Rick Rubin and in September 2004 his self-titled album to much acclaim. He played several shows supporting Nine Inch Nails on their European tour in summer 2005, and has also supported The Mars Volta.

Williams was also invited to the Lollapalooza music festival in Summer 2005. The Chicago stage allowed Williams to attract a wider audience. He also appeared on NIN's album Year Zero, and supported the group on their 2006 North American tour, during which Williams announced that Trent Reznor would co-produce his next album.

This collaboration resulted in 2007's The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust!.

As a writer, Williams has been published in The New York Times, Esquire, Bomb Magazine and African Voices, as well as having released four collections of poetry. As a poet and musician, Williams has toured and lectured across the world, appearing at many universities and colleges.

Williams explains why he creates within so many genres, saying:

“ It's not that I balance [those arts] out, all the different arts balance me out. So, that there is a certain type of emotion that is more easily accessible through music than poetry... Some things are meant to be written, some are meant to be sung, some things are meant to be hummed, some things are made to be yelled, and so that's just how life works ”

Williams is a vocal critic of the Bush administration, the War on Terrorism, and the Iraq War; among his more well-known works are the anti-war anthems 'Not In My Name' and 'Act III Scene 2 (Shakespeare)'. In early 2008, a Nike TV commercial featured Williams' song 'List of Demands'

The newest album by Saul Williams, 'The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust' will be yours for the sum of zero dollars. 'The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust' is the follow-up to Williams' 2004 self-titled album and is produced by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. For Reznor it has been 'the most involved I've been with any project outside NIN since Antichrist Superstar, and I've been impatiently waiting for the chance for you to hear it.'

The material has been produced by Trent Reznor and mixed by Alan Moulder and it was Reznor who said that after his own recent dealings with record labels that they should decide to release it directly. Trent Reznor: 'There are obvious similarities in how Radiohead just released their new record and the way we've chosen to. After thinking about this way too much, I feel we've improved upon their idea in a few profound ways that benefit you, the consumer. You obviously will be the judge of this in the end. One thing that IS very different in our situation is that Saul's not the household name (yet!) that Radiohead is, and that means we need your support on this more than ever. If you like what you hear, spread the word.'

Mindless Self Indulgence Hand Picks TRP For Direct Support On Australian Tour!

The Red Paintings have been hand-picked as direct support for the NYC-based electronic punk group Mindless Self Indulgence this April! MSI (as they're often referred to by both fans and detractors, alike) are a band that's fiercely independent and stunningly visceral in both their recorded material and their live shows -- while some might say it made perfect sense to do a tour with TRP, we are honored that they agreed and cannot wait to share the stage with them for their first headlining tour of Australia.

Since 1997 MSI have been been storming the electronic, industrial, punk, and dance scenes sweeping up many hardcore fans in the wake with their music and incendiary live performances. Currently they're on a world tour in support of their Billboard chart-topper IF and their brand new #1 single and music video, "Mark David Chapman"...

Having recently shared the stage with the likes of Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance, DIR EN GREY and many others, the band is returning to Australia for the first time since their headline-grabbing appearance on Soundwave 2008. Take a moment to check out their tour dates and you'll notice that many shows are selling out so please be sure to get tickets in advance for our run with the band! If you're at all familiar with MSI, you might remember that their tour of North America last spring had more than two weeks of completely sold out shows. Coupled with the fact many of these venues are very intimate and kids have been waiting for a long, long time...let's just say you don't want to miss these gigs, but if you don't grab tickets quick you very well might.

We are hard at work on a very special "rock" setlist to warm up the crowd for what will be insanely energetic shows on all fronts...we'll probably bring out a new song or two and maybe have some new merch on hand. If you wanna share in our excitement for these shows or help promote (flyering/online), be sure to chime in HERE on our forum.

More soon, but for now we have to get back to these crazy plans we're dreaming up.

Dates as follows:
Wednesday 8 April
Billboard The Venue, Melbourne
18+ | 8:00 PM

Thursday 9 April
Billboard The Venue, Melbourne
Under 18s | 2:30 PM

Saturday 11 April
UNSW Roundhouse, Sydney
Lic All Ages | 7:30 PM

Sunday 12 April
The Tivoli, Brisbane
All Ages | 7:30 PM

It's been a crazy year so far! Bush fires, floods, way too many deaths, homes lost...the list goes on and on, and I can't even begin to imagine the feeling of losing so much. Here is hoping for brighter days ahead. And to everyone out there who has felt the effects of all of this travesty: Our thoughts are with you. Please stay strong, and know our hearts go out to you.

On a positive note, I've been writing again this year and we are going to play some new song ideas for you on this exciting OZ tour with Mindless Self Indulgence. It kicks off TONIGHT and we're over the moon about touring with them - they are such an incredible band and I'm sure will blow us all away with their highly intense stage show, each and every night.

All the shows will be ALL AGES in each state (with an extra over 18's in Melbourne). Being that it's been a while since we've played all ages shows in many of these places, this will hopefully be a good opportunity for you younger folks to come out and see us. I've just been informed that all of the shows are on the verge of selling out so please make sure you get your tickets NOW! It's been over 3 months since we have played a show, so get ready for some high energy and creative times.

Lots going on so keep safe and get ready for the MSI/TRP revolution, hopefully hitting a town near you more reminder, get your tickets NOW while they're still available, and we'll see you this week!Read more HERE

Hello All,

We have just been invited to play one last show in OZ before I jetset to the USA. We weren’t going to play any more shows as a full band but this is one cause I believe is most important and I feel lucky to be a part of it. It’s an important subject to stand up and fight for, the planet we live on and the current global warming situation...

So, on December 12th at Noon at King George Square in Brisbane City, Australia The Red Paintings will be playing a FREE, all ages show directly after the warming walk.

The 12th of December is D-Day for the planet as world leaders meet in Copenhagen to discuss a global deal on climate change. While they talk the talk, we will be walking the walk all over the world, from New York to Tokyo, Mumbai to Paris and all over Australia. So get your walking shoes on and be a part of the most important Walk Against Global Warming ever. 12 DECEMBER - Global day of action

On Saturday 12th December, concerts and rallies will be held in cities around the world to promote the need for a safe climate agreement at the UN Climate Change Meeting in Copenhagen. Brisbane will be one of those cities and you can make the difference!

Your presence can directly impact positive global outcomes through the broadcast image of Brisbane's peacefully expressed desire for climate change agreement. Following the walk there will be a concert in King George Square with artists who have kindly donated their performances to nurture opportunity for a safe climate future and speakers on the hour.

This will be the bands first US show since US headline tour in 2008. TRP to release NEW music video PREVIEW this friday March 5

03 / 03 / 2010

We have released audio previews from the long awaited album but no video footage from the music videos that were shot for the album. So this week to coincide with the new Alice in Wonderland film, we are going to release a videopreview for what was actually going to be our 3rd video from the new album. The idea for this video came to us over a year ago and was something we wanted to make for a very, very long time; after you see it you’ll understand why we are releasing it during the opening of the new Alice in Wonderland film, to show Disney how a re-make should be made ;) . Enjoy –

The preview begins March 5th 2010
